Shapeways Ring

The idea for this project started out with sketches of archways based on art deco style. once I had the basic sketch laid out I used it as a reference to recreate the same design in Rhino using arcs.Once the line work is completed and connected, the design is copy and pasted into a seamless flat design. In order to ensure the ring fits the design is scaled onto a line that is the same length as the circumference as the sized finger.

Once as the design has been oriented around the correct size ring into a cylinder a few simple commands are used complete the ring.

I used the pipe command to make consistent tubing to create the solid structure of the ring. The final command used was Boolean Union which took the individual pieces of pipe and joined all of them together with no overlapping solids.

The Final product is amazing, I am pleased with quality and detail of the finished product. The satisfaction is immense considering I started with a drawing and I now have a physical object.

One thing I could have done better would have been to make the ring functional, currently, it spans the length of the pinky finger and doesn't allow for much movement. Movement can be achieved by removing portions of the ring on the underside while leaving the top side intact allowing the finger to bend while wearing the ring.

In the future, I would use a more simple design. The problem with the small piping resulted in rough/missing detail where the pipes meet. A larger design would result in less detail but would remove webbing/bad edges

This project taught me the skills necessary to create a physical object through many different processes. Starting from a sketch and working its way through rhino I now have a ring that I designed.

Head 3D Scan

In order to get a 3D version of my head into R hino , I had to sit in a chair for 30 second white someone walked a perfect circle around me. Frankie, my Professor was holding a 3D scanner plugged into a laptop. Multiple scans were done were done with different angles in order to get all features of the face. Once I imported the file into rhino I have an editable mesh of my own head. .

Rubber Duck

This prompt didn't allow much freedom of creation. I completed this project following the instructions but decided to render differently. This project taught me how to build using surfaces as well and rebuilding a surface. Rebuilding the duck body allows you to add control points which allow modification of the body shape. This assignment also taught me how to blend 2 different surfaces to create one seamless object. The final skill introduced in this exercise was rendering. The duck assignment teaches you basic skills to shape object organically as well as render them. Something I could have improved on with this project was the use of control points. With the use of only 8 control points on the duck sacrifices of precision were made. Something I will do differently in the future is the use of more control points. The rubber ducky activity used only a few control points to modify the shapes. Adding more control points will allow for more detailed and pre...

Reverse Engineered Project

This was the first project where I saw all the homework activities fall into play during this project. I started this prompt with detailed measurements of the phone case within .001 inches wherever possible noted on a sketch. Just like for the screwdriver and screwdriver assignment these measurements guidelines for all the lines in this project. Once the linework was down, I used loft/cap/ and extrude curve, were used to create the different colored surfaces which all together make the phone. I am most pleased that my this project turned out to be so realistic. At first, I doubted my abilities to recreate the phone case. With precise measurements and the time taking the task of laying out every line, the final product was worth it. I am most pleased that my this project turned out to be so realistic.
